De nome científico Helichrysum kraussi, a immortelle é um arbusto alto e aromático pertencente à família Helichrysum, uma designação que deriva das palavras gregas helios, que significa sol, e chrysos, que significa ouro, referindo-se à cor dourada e brilhante das suas flores.

É também pelas suas flores que esta espécie é conhecida como "a flor eterna", visto que elas mantêm a sua cor vibrante mesmo quando são cortadas e secas.

• Combate fungos – Kutluk et al. (2018) verificaram que a ação antifúngica dos extratos desta planta é idêntica à de agentes antifúngicos sintéticos;
• Atrasa o envelhecimento da pele, e promove uma tez radiante e saudável – Para além dos seus efeitos desinfetantes e purificadores, a immortelle apresenta ainda atividade antioxidante graças aos flavonoides na sua composição (Legoale et al. 2013). Assim, protege a derme contra os radicais livres, retardando o envelhecimento;
• Melhora a aparência e a textura da pele – Glumac et al. (2023) demonstraram a capacidade da espécie Helichrysum na regeneração de células cutâneas, melhorando a textura da pele;
• Alivia inflamações cutâneas graças ao efeito anti-inflamatório dos flavonoides na sua composição (Legoale et al. 2013).

Mas como deve ser usado?

Os óleos essenciais são bastante versáteis, pode usá-los das mais variadas formas, no entanto, recomendamos colocar 2 a 3 gotas num difusor de ambiente para usufruir de todos os seus benefícios aromáticos e terapêuticos.

Immortelle | The secret of the skincare industry

Did you know that immortelle is one of the best kept secrets in the skincare industry? 🤫

Known scientifically as Helichrysum kraussi, immortelle is a tall, aromatic shrub belonging to the Helichrysum family, a name that derives from the Greek words helios, meaning “sun”, and chrysos, meaning “gold”, referring to the bright golden colour of its flowers.

It’s also because of its flowers that this species is known as "the eternal flower", as they retain their vibrant colour even when cut and dried.

• Disinfects the skin – Bremner & Meyer (2000) carried out an ethnobotanical study that identified the chemical substances prenyl-butyrylchloroglucinol and kauenoic acid as being responsible for immortelle's antibacterial potential, having shown antibacterial activity against 5 bacteria;
• Fights fungi – Kutluk et al. (2018) found that the antifungal action of extracts of this plant is identical to that of synthetic antifungal agents;
• Delays skin ageing, and promotes a radiant and healthy complexion – In addition to its disinfectant and purifying effects, immortelle also registers antioxidant activity thanks to the flavonoids in its composition (Legoale et al. 2013). Thus, it protects the dermis against free radicals and slows down ageing;
• Improves the appearance and texture of the skin – Glumac et al. (2023) demonstrated the ability of the Helichrysum species to regenerate skin cells, improving skin texture;
• Relieves skin inflammation thanks to the anti-inflammatory effect of the flavonoids in its composition (Legoale et al. 2013).

But how should it be used?

Essential oils are very versatile, you can use them in many different ways, however we recommend you place 2-3 drops in a diffuser to enjoy all their aromatic and therapeutic benefits.

On the other hand, as this oil is particularly suitable for dermatological issues, you can also mix it with your favourite vegetable oil and apply it on the skin. Another possibility is to add a few drops to your facial essence, serum or moisturising cream to ensure clean and healthy skin.
